A Very Important Note

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed planning a trip with food allergies — you’re not alone. Here’s how we approach it…

How We Decide It’s Safe (For Us)

Traveling with food allergies means every meal requires preparation, communication, and trusting your instincts.

What feels safe for one family may not feel safe for another — and that’s okay. Here’s how we decide what works for us.

Before We Go

We research restaurants ahead of time:

• Read menus carefully
• Look for clear ingredient descriptions
• Notice how often allergens appear
• Email or call when needed
• Make reservations when possible

A thoughtful response often guides our decision.

At the Table

Communication matters most. We ask:

• What oils do you cook with?
• Are foods prepared on shared surfaces?
• Can dishes be modified?

We don’t expect perfection — we look for honesty and awareness.

Timing Is Strategy

We usually eat early. A quieter restaurant means clearer communication and fewer kitchen variables.

We Travel With Backup

We always pack a carry-on filled with safe snacks.
If we have a car, we stop for groceries.
If there’s a fridge, we use it. Control what you can- and let the rest go.

We Stay Within Our Comfort Zone

Every decision depends on:

• The specific allergies
• The menu
• The conversation
• How confident we feel that day It’s okay to walk away!

Our experiences are personal and may differ for each of us. Food allergy safety can vary by day, staff, location, and preparation.

This site is not medical advice or a guarantee — it’s simply a collection of experiences that worked for us, shared to help other families feel more confident when traveling with food allergies.

If you’re new to traveling with food allergies, we hope this serves as a helpful starting point—and a reminder that you’re not alone.
